Beschrijving

When David Hockney discovered the iPhone as a new medium, it opened up completely new artistic possibilities for him. The screen offered unmixed shades for a particularly nuanced representation of pure light. In the spring of 2009, he made his first digital drawings in which he reproduced the morning landscape in bold lines and dazzling colours. From 2010, Hockney used an iPad whose larger display expanded its artistic repertoire and enabled an even more complex interplay of colour, light and line. Each picture in this book captures a fleeting moment as Hockney has seen him through a window in his house in Yorkshire: from the glowing sunrise or lilac morning sky to peaceful night view or the sudden arrival of spring. Drops on window panes, distant lights at night, reflections on vases and an abundance of different plants on the window sill form fine details. In 120 drawings from the years 2009 to 2012, compiled by the artist himself, we experience the course of time through David Hockney’s eyes. This artist book, first appeared in an exclusive, signed edition, now returns as an unlimited edition. The still generous XL format presents Hockney’s impressions in brilliant resolution. This gives the perfect opportunity to hear the advice of the Times critic on this book: “If you want to get a bunch of David Hockney gifted, here’s your chance
